Paediatric Intravenous Sedation for Dentistry animations
Resources recently presented at the DSTG symposium by Prabhleen Anand and Andrea Aspinall
The team involved in developing this animation was Andrea Aspinal (Specialist in Paediatric Dentistry), Daniel Heaton (Consultant Paediatric Anaesthetist), Elizabeth Coombs (Play specialist) and led by Prabhleen Anand (Consultant Paediatric Dentistry and IV sedation lead for Paediatric Dentistry).
The background to producing this video animation was to help our anxious patients overcome their fear of the unknown about treatment under IV sedation. This should help the children and their guardians support them to understand the IV sedation process better, before they attend for their appointment.
There is a child friendly version, a guardian version and a BSL version (for child and guardian) too. It has been subtitled in the 5 languages too - Turkish, Bengali, Farsi, Arabic and Spanish.
We hope to be more sustainable as this animation could replace any paediatric IV information leaflets currently in use. The QR code that has been generated can be used on clinic to share with patients/carers, or can be embedded into patient appointment letters and for any staff wanting to show or send information remotely.
The following recordings are hosted on YouTube.
- Paediatric intravenous sedation for dentistry - for patient
- Paediatric intravenous sedation for dentistry - for patient - with BSL
- Paediatric intravenous sedation for dentistry - for guardian
- Paediatric intravenous sedation for dentistry - for guardian - with BSL
